Shri Bankey Bihari Mandir, Vrindavan

About Bankey Bihari Mandir

Shri Bankey Bihari Mandir is among the holiest Vaishnava temples in all of Braj Bhumi. Dedicated to Lord Krishna in his Tribhanga posture (three bends — "Bankey" = bent, "Bihari" = the enjoyer), the temple was established by the legendary saint Swami Haridas Ji in the 16th century.

The temple is famous for its unique purdah ritual — the curtain opens and closes every few minutes so that the intense gaze of Bihari Ji does not overwhelm devotees. This tradition makes every darshan a precious, fleeting moment.

Practical Tips for Bankey Bihari Darshan

🌅
Go early — very early

🧭
The lanes are complex
Bankey Bihari is deep inside Loi Bazar — very narrow lanes that confuse first-timers. Our driver knows every shortcut and parking spot. Don't try to navigate alone.
📷
No photography inside
Photography and video inside the temple sanctum is strictly prohibited. Leave your camera at the car. The curtain tradition is sacred — respect it.
👗
Cover head & body
Traditional Indian clothes are preferred. Women — bring a dupatta or stole to cover your head. Men — avoid shorts. The temple management may deny entry otherwise.
👟
Footwear storage
Remove footwear outside the temple. Free shoe stands are available. Alternatively, leave your footwear in the car if parked nearby — our driver manages this.
🙏
Watch the curtain
The curtain opens and closes every few minutes. When it opens, close your eyes for a moment and offer your pranaam with full attention — that is the traditional darshan etiquette.
